A unified vision for the new curriculum for languages
It can be hard to know where to start with the new curriculum, with so many different aspects to consider. So we have been looking for a way to bring the different elements together into a single vision. This means:
- linking the programme of study and the big picture into a single set of ideas
- showing how the different aspects of the programme of study fit together
- simplifying planning into four overarching, essential elements that the languages curriculum must offer learners
Latest version!
Our latest version of the analytic framework makes it clearer that all four aspects are equally important and are interwoven throughout a pupil's experience of language learning. The downloadable version includes some explanatory notes as well. Download it here... (pdf, 71KB)
The poster that you can see below is colourful but makes the different aspects seem more hierarchical, so please bear that in mind! You can download a copy here (pdf, 176KB).
How can this analytic framework be used?
Either document may be useful for:
- reviewing the balance between the elements in your units of learning
- discussing how you can give more attention to a particular element
- reviewing progression through the key stage - are you helping pupils to acquire the underpinning skills that enable them to fly?
All the elements depend on each other and are of equal importance. Each is a way into many rich learning opportunities, and you may want to clarify and extend what each one includes. All should be built into every stage of planning.
